Course objectives
The aim of the tuition is working knowledge of the English language on the B2 level of the "Common European Framework of Reference" (CEFR)(Independent User) checked by an examination.
Syllabus
  • MEDICAL ENGLISH. Syllabus.
  • 1st week: Registration for lessons.
  • 2nd week: UNIT 1: The Human Body. Grammar: Definite Article, Indefinite Article, Absence of Articles; Plural, much - many, little - few. Conversation: Theme 1: Laboratory.
  • 3rd week: UNIT 2: Musculoskeletal System. Grammar: The Construction "there is/are", Word Order of the English Sentence. Conversation: Theme 2: Hospital.
  • 4th week: UNIT 3: Cardiovascular System. Grammar: Modal Verbs, their Periphrastic Forms. Conversation: Theme 3: Operating Theatre.
  • 5th week: UNIT 4: Haematic and Lymphatic System. Grammar: Basic Verbal Tenses (Present, Past, Future).
  • 6th week: UNIT 5: Gastrointestinal System (Mouth, Pharynx, Esophagus, Stomach, Intestines). Grammar: Passive Voice, Numerals. Conversation: Theme 4: Operation.
  • 7th week: UNIT 5: Gastrointestinal System (Accessory Organs of Digestion). Grammar: Comparison of Adjectives and Adverbs. Telling the Time in English. Conversation: Theme 5: Artificial Respiration.
  • 8th week: UNIT 6: Respiratory System. Grammar: Personal, Possessive, Interrogative, Demonstrative and Replacive, and Indefinite Pronouns. Conversation: Theme 6: Wounds.
  • 9th week: UNIT 7: Integumentary System. Grammar: Relative, Reflexive and Emphasising Pronouns. Conversation: Theme 7: Shock.
  • 10th week: UNIT 8: Urinary System. Grammar: Present Perfect and Past Perfect Tense.
  • 11th week: UNIT 9: Endocrine System. Grammar: Adverbial Clauses of Purpose; Transgressives. Conversation: Theme 8: Poisoning.
  • 12th week: UNIT 10: Nervous System. Grammar: Gerund; Object + Infinitive, Subject + Infinitive Constructions. Conversation: Theme 9: Injuries to Bones, Joints and Muscles.
  • 13th week: UNIT 11: Organs of Senses (Taste, Smell, Sight). Grammar: Present Conditional, Past Conditional; Adverbial Clauses of Condition. Conversation: Theme 10: Burns.
  • 14th week: UNIT 11: Organs of Senses (Hearing). Grammar: Indirect Questions, Sequence of Tenses.
  • 15th week: Credit Test, Credit Acknowledgement.

Assessment methods (in Czech)
Výuka probíhá formou cvičení. Přítomnost ve cvičeních se bezpodmínečně vyžaduje, tolerují se maximálně dvě řádně omluvené absence; nejlépe je neúčast nahradit v nejbližším vhodném termínu. Výuka je ukončena zápočtem (z) udělovaným na základě docházky a úspěšného absolvování zápočtového testu z probrané učební látky.

Information on completion of the course: Studenti se státní jazykovou zkouškou, příp. jejím ekvivalentem (TOEFL, FCE apod.) mohou vykonat zkoušku kdykoliv během semestru.
