Course objectives
The course introduces to Medical Ethics. Since ethics is a part of practical philosophy, the course also introduces to philosophical thinking whose methods are used in Medical Ethics. The aim of the course is: - to introduce to Medical Ethics - to provide basics in Philosophy of Medicine - to acquire Medical Ethics in the historical context (from the Hippocratic tradition till Modern Times) - to develop the ability to perceive ethical aspects of medicine

  • History of Medical Ethics (Antiquity, Middle Ages, Modern Times) & Introduction to Medical Ethics (terminology, subject) & Methodical approaches in Medical Ethics & Patient - physician relationship & Informed consent & Patient rights & Areas of Medical Ethics (overview) & Beginning of human life & Death and dying & Medicine and its goals: historical challenges & Modification of human being & Human subject research
