Course objectives
Nursing Practice II is a practical subject, which integrates knowledge of the theory and practice of nursing, basic scientific disciplines, natural sciences, social and behavioral sciences. The course provides consolidation and deepening of professional nursing knowledge and skills. The course is independent practical activity in the clinical departments of medical devices. The aim is to: - training, acquisition and consolidation of professional activities on the implementation of the nursing process in natural conditions of medical practice - realization of individual nursing care based on understanding the bio-psycho-social and spiritual needs of the patient - to determine the nursing diagnoses based on the taxonomy of NANDA, objectives and nursing care plans, implementation and evaluation of nursing care - the formation of professional features General nurses - application of theoretical knowledge to specific situations medical practice - realization of a creative approach to solving problems in medical practice.
Learning outcomes
Student will be able to:
to manage the operation of the nursing unit, the schedule of the work, the way of keeping the medical and nursing documentation;
to use nursing and health records and to record changes in the status of patients and activities performed according to the student's competencies;
to participate in comprehensive care for patients in cooperation with other healthcare professionals;
communicate within a multidisciplinary team;
apply the nursing process;
to consolidate the right techniques of measuring and evaluating vital functions,
acquire and gradually consolidate principles and procedures for administering drugs per eye, eye, ear, nose, skin, per rectum;
list the principles, prepare aids and apply oxygen and inhalation properly;
Define the principles and procedures for material sampling for individual microbiological examinations (sputum, swab, hemoculture);
describe the principles of capillary, venous and arterial blood collection, prepare the aids to these procedures, and make the correct use of these samples;
define principles and differences in the way i.d., s.c. and i.m injection by the patient, identify suitable sites for application, properly prepare the aids, apply the correct injection method, including recording in the documentation;
to name and properly prepare the devices for administration and administration of the infusion, to describe the effects and principles when administering these drugs, to properly prepare and administer the i.v. injection and infusion, including recording in documentation;
to prepare aids and assist in attaching immobilization bandages, external fixators, orthoses, plasters;
caring for a trolley, knowing the individual aids, assisting and being able to properly perform septic and aseptic grip.
Syllabus
  • Nursing Practice II is focused on the area of secondary health care. Students will learn the structure of hospital services and clinical departments and learn to nursing activities and skills. Through the process of nursing students learn how to evaluate environment (material and personnel) to assess people's needs and carry out nursing activities. Clinical workplace: University Hospital Brno-Bohunice: Internal Cardiology Medicine, Department of Neurology, Department of Infectious Diseases.
