Course objectives
The aim of the course is an advanced insight into the issue of metabolic disorder diabetes mellitus following the findings of the bachelor degree with emphasis on specialized nutritional procedure (etiology, clinical picture, diagnostics, treatment options, prevention, nutritional procedures and measures in intensified insulin therapy) and treatment of disease, age and physical activity, counseling and cooperation with a diabetes nurse). The course focuses on the specifics of pediatric diabetology and specific issues in diabetology from the perspective of a dietitian - diabetics in surgical treatment, diabetes mellitus and obesity, surgical treatment of obesity in a patient with diabetes mellitus. An unforgettable part is the practice of communication with a diabetic patient. Based on the acquired knowledge, the student will not forget the psychological, pedagogical and social aspects, which are directly related to the specifics of the education of diabetic patients.
Learning outcomes
At the end of this course the student will be able to describe the diagnosis, prevention, treatment and specialized nutritional procedures in diabetes mellitus, to prepare menus according to nutritional requirements, food choice and technological treatment of mellitus diabetes meals and complications associated with them, to use a system of monitoring and repeated monitoring of nutritional status and to create educational materials and educate a child patient and his / her legal guardian.
