Course objectives
Practical training in exercises focuses on methods used in immunological laboratory diagnostics of immunopathological conditions, on indication and interpretation of laboratory immunological laboratory examinations and on investigation algorithms in the diagnosis of immunopathological conditions.
Learning outcomes
Upon completion of the course the student will be able to perform and interpret basic and special laboratory immunological methodologies. The student must be able to prepare the laboratory protocols for the laboratory tests.
Syllabus
  • Collection, reception, basic processing and preservation of biological material before the examination.
  • Laboratory Information System in Immunological Laboratory. Performance reporting, economic monitoring.
  • Management of laboratory protocols.
  • Qualitative and quantitative determination of immunoglobulins in serum and other biological materials.
  • Qualitative and quantitative determination of paraproteins and cryoglobulins.
  • Detection of natural and postvaccination antibodies.
  • Determination of acute phase proteins.
  • Determination of components and functional activity of the complement system.
  • Immunophenotyping of lymphocytes, monocytes, other cells on the flow cytometer.
  • Functional tests of lymphocytes (proliferation after stimulation of mitogens and antigens, evidence of cytokine formation, cytotoxicity).
  • Functional examination of professional phagocytes (chemotaxis, ingestion, respiratory flare).
  • Laboratory diagnosis of allergic diseases: determination of total and specific IgE, precipitation of extrinsic alveolitis.
  • Laboratory diagnosis of autoimmune diseases: examination of autoantibodies by immunofluorescence and immunoenzymatic techniques.
  • Selected molecular-genetic methods for the diagnosis of immunological diseases.
  • Immunization and blood collection in experimental animals.
  • Utilization of PC for the acquisition, processing and presentation of data from laboratory immunology.
Literature
  • Dopl.
