- Course objectives
- The aim of the course Nursing Practice II is to prepare students for the provision of comprehensive, highly specialized nursing care for patients with cardiovascular disorders and at the same time for the use of available technical equipment, aids and pharmacological products in cardiology and cardiac surgery. Furthermore, to prepare the student for the implementation of basic diagnostic and therapeutic procedures in cardiology and cardiac surgery.
- Learning outcomes
- Student after completing the course:
knows and participates in the principles of comprehensive highly specialized nursing care for patients with severe cardiovascular disorders;
knows the basic complementary examinations used in cardiology and cardiac surgery and can assess them;
recognizes heart rhythm disorders on ECG recording;
knows the specifics of oxygen therapy and the principles of its administration and participates in its application;
is familiar with medicinal products used in intensive care in cardiology and cardiac surgery, knows their indications, contraindications, effects and side effects, knows the principles of their application and participates in their application and evaluation of effects;
knows the purpose of the use of special instrumentation used in intensive care medicine in cardiology and cardiac surgery and participates in its use;
knows the procedure for performing cardioversion and patient care before, during and after the procedure and is involved in assistance in the procedure and patient care;
knows the procedure for performing pacing using electrodes placed on the chest and caring for the patient before, during and after the procedure, and is involved in assistance in the procedure and patient care;
; knows the procedure for defibrillation of the heart by electric shock and participates in its implementation;
knows and participates in the procedure of cardiopulmonary resuscitation and the principles of highly specialized nursing care for patients after cardiopulmonary resuscitation;
knows the procedure for preparing a sterile table for aseptic procedures and participates in its preparation; knows the reasons and procedures for the introduction and removal of the central venous catheter and patient care before, during and after the procedure and is involved in the preparation of the procedure and the patient care;
knows the procedure for puncture of the artery and patient care before, during and after the operation participates in the preparation of the operation and patient care;
knows the procedure for cannulation of the radial artery, including fixation, decanylation of the arterial cannula and patient care before, during and after the procedure, and is involved in the preparation of the procedure and patient care;
knows the patient's preparation and the procedure for male bladder catheterization and is involved in male catheterization and patient care;
knows the principles of rehabilitation treatment in cardiology and cardiac surgery and applies them;
knows the principles of education and applies them;
knows the specifics of communication with patients with severe cardiovascular disorders and the principles of communication within a multidisciplinary team and applies them;
is familiar with the documentation used in intensive care medicine in cardiology and cardiac surgery;
knows the principles of hygiene and anti-epidemic work regime and applies them;
knows the possibilities of caring for his mental health and applies them Student:
accepts the content of the internship, its role and the role of members of the multidisciplinary team;
is actively involved in all intensive care activities in cardiology and cardiac surgery;
accepts and adheres to established rules and procedures;
cooperates with the team;

- Course Nursing Practice II takes place in clinical workplaces of intensive care, cardiology and cardiac surgery.
- List of services that the student performs during the provision of comprehensive, highly specialized nursing care in cardiology and cardiac surgery workplaces:
- handling of linear dispenser, infusion pump, enteral pump, ventilator (stable, portable), heating devices, monitor, pulse oximeter, blood analyzer and other devices in intensive care medicine;
- assessment of laboratory values (basic ionogram, urea, creatinine, blood count, coagulation, cardiac enzymes and others);
- evaluation of monitored parameters (respiration, BP, P, TT, O2 saturation, ECG) in the conscious patient;
- evaluation of monitored parameters (respiration, BP, P, TT, O2 saturation, EtCO2, ECG) in an unconscious patient;
- ECG trace analysis;
- cardioversion assistance and patient preparation before the procedure, patient care during and after the procedure;
- performing pacing using electrodes placed on the chest (or model);
- preparation of a sterile table for aseptic procedures;
- preparation of aids and assistance in securing central venous access;
- removal of the central venous catheter;
- male bladder catheterization;
- performing an artery puncture, preparing the patient before the procedure, caring for the patient during and after the procedure;
- radial artery cannulation and fixation, preparation of the patient before the procedure, care of the patient during the procedure and after the procedure;
- education of the patient and loved ones.
