Course objectives
Otorhinolaryngology and head and neck surgery deals with region of head, neck and partially thorax. Technical development of recent years allowed impressive development both as regards diagnosis and treatment. In basic evaluation methods Otorhinolaryngology remains very demanding as for time and technical skillfulness. Very deeply placed spaces of ear, nose, epipharynx, larynx, trachea, oesophagus and region of skull base demand by evaluation and surgery extraordinary ability of orientation, skillfulness, patients and fineness. ENT organs are also very sensitive for perception of pain and abundant reflexes. It all is necessary to respect in training evaluating skill in scholarship. Otorhinolaryngology was one of the first disciplines which use in surgery microscope. The disease of ENT organs is very frequent and ENT used to be placed in third place (behind internal medicine and surgery) as for the number of patients. For general practitioners is ENT region very important, because it creates about 30 % of his patients in the outpatient room. In the pediatric outpatient, the room is this percentage even higher. In Otorhinolaryngology there is also a big amount of emergency and first aid diagnosis which are a threat to death (Bleeding, dyspnea, foreign bodies, corrosions and scalds, sudden hearing loss, acute vertigo, etc). Every physician should be informed about their urgent treatment.
