- Course objectives
- At the end of the course, students are able to express themselves accomplished in standard Czech in front of an adult and child audience. They are able to prepare a speech on a specific topic and manage it successfully. They are able to evaluate speeches from the point of view of nonverbal communication, voice technique, stylistic accomplishment, composition, argumentation and from the matter-of-fact point of view. They are acquainted with contemporary social and political issues related to teaching, education, especially to its lowest stages, to family and family politics and they are able to discuss such topics in a high quality way. They have gained basic knowledge and skills from the area of rhetoric. They know communication skills that should be mastered by a pre-school-aged child. They can evaluate such communication skills by children and develop them in the form of didactic games.

- 1. Mental preparation for a speech. Methods how to cope with stage fright and stress. 2. Nonverbal communication and voice technique (phrasing, modulation, articulation). 3. Standard pronunciation. Standard Czech and other systems of the national language. 4. Theory of argumentation. Rhetorical tricks. Communication and ethical maxims. 5. History of rhetoric. 6. Communication skills of a pre-school aged child. 7. Didactic games that develop communication skills by a pre-school-aged child.

- A seminar combined with discussions on the professional issues of the course,learning, class discussion,practical training.
- Assessment methods
- 1. Active work in the seminar. Attendance. 2. Present in the seminar a prepared speech on the topic. It should take about 5 minutes (max. 7 minutes). It should be spoken in a written or colloquial Czech (a spoken form of a written Czech). It follows: language level (writing / writing), stylistic level, composition of speech, argumentation, nonverbal aspects including vocal technique, pronunciation, etc. Presentations, handouts etc. can be used. 3. Seminar work: the student will choose two didactic games or two procedures to develop children's communicative abilities based on the study literature (to be completed and quoted during the semester, optionally completed with an individual consultation). Evaluate the advantages and disadvantages of these games or practices, or will complete their own experience with them. In addition, it creates its own didactic game or process and again describes its advantages and disadvantages, experience with its application, and whether it is effective for the given goal (developing communicative abilities of children). Alternative Topics: - Analysis of a selected example of a rhetorical style from present or from history - from the point of view of linguistic, compositional, non-verbal communication, - Stylistic character processing of short text - text and style of choice. Range: min. 4 pages of text
