Course objectives
The aim of the subject is to get students acquainted with an offer of alternative schools in Czech educational conditions so that students could become familiar (both in theoretical and practical ways) with the terms “alternative school”, “educational alternative”, alternative didactic strategies, innovatory school and could be well versed in pedagogical, psychological and philosophical relations of the best known historical and current conceptions of the tuition and they could make use of this knowledge for a better comprehension of contemporary tendencies in upbringing and education. The subject is implemented as a combined model of seminars and sittings in on classes in school of innovatory character with these reflections. The selection will be made in cooperation with the students.
Syllabus
  • 1. Historical roots of alternative schools. 2. Theory and practice of alternative schools in CR in Brno (within Masaryk University in Brno) – overview. Types of schools – state, non-state, religious, foundation and private ones. 3. Possibility of 1st stage (infant) in Basic school in the sphere of educational innovation. Sitting in on classes in B.S. Řeznovice nearby Ivančice (project teaching). B.S. Droždín (Elementary school) sitting in on classes with reflection. 4. Daltonic plan and schools with elements of Daltonic plan in the Czech Republic. Sitting in on classes in the B. S. Rašínova. 5. Project “Step by Step” and its specific features. Sitting in on classes in Basic School Pramínek – Heyrovského Brno. 6. Special schools and classes in the sense of educational alternative. 7. School and classroom climate in alternative types of schools.
