Course objectives
The aim of the subject is to introduce students to the development of literature for young adults, including the main genres of literature for children and youth, as well as significant authors. The lectures in the form of selected topics cover the production of Czech literature for children and young adults from the beginning up to present. The topics are organised into sections of poetry, prose (exile literature included) and a brief outline of secondary literature. It brings also an outline of the most significant genres of literature for children and young adults.

  • Development of literature for childern and youth from the very beginning till these days - chronological survey: - prose of 19th century - poetry of 19th century - poetry of 20th century - prose of 20th century - contemporary literature, its positives and problems - the most significant authors of 19th century - the most significant authors of 20th century - genre survey of literature for children and youth

Teaching methods
Students will get an insight into basic trends and movements of Czech literature for young adults in the period in question, as well as into the specific nature of their poetics. They will be able to identify and analyze the style of outstanding personalities, significant for that particular period. Students will further develop their literary knowledge and interpretational skills with the aim to communicate with a literary work more effectively.

Course completition: credit Course requirements: reading of selected books for children and youth.
