- Course objectives
- At the end of this course student understands the sound part of human communication that is created by the speech organs. Student willbe familiar with fundamentalphonetic and phonological knowledge, accoustic speech structure and comparison of written and oral performance. Student will master the phonetic transcription, with principles of ortography and comparison of written and orthoepy , classification of the wowels and consonants and the structure of the sylabl. Student will understand the segmentation of the continuous speech and Czech pronuncation relles (houm and loan words), the variantsof the pronuncation of phonemes in the continuouns speech, sound structure of the Czech and its correct graphical record.

- 1. Fonetics and phonology as linguistic disciplines. 2. Relation between phonetics and phonology. 3. Phonetic and phonology transcription. 4. Clasification of the phones and phonemes in Czech according to the phonetics and phonology. 5. Sound meansin of continuos speech. Intonation, stress, melody. 6. Literary pronuncation of home and loan words. 7. Sound structure of the Czech language and its correct graphical record. 8. Rulles of the Czech orthography.

- Teaching methods
- Type of tuition: Seminar credit excercises focusedon the culture of spoken and writen expression and basic of phonetics and phonology Textual analysis: identification of the morphological phenomena in the text. promleme methos controlled discussion. During the tuition, there will be scheduled tests to controll students knowledge. The marks of these tests will be included into final grading. In agreement with the Study regulations of Masaryk University, there will be NO re- corections of these tests allowed. Dates of these control tests will be announced via IS at the beginning of the semestre. Passing of these tests is a requirement for the enrolement for the final exam. According to the Study regulations of Masaryk University, in justified cases it is possible to ask (in written form) for permission to to end the subject in second re-sit. The attendance is compulsory.
- Assessment methods
- Requirements for passing the exam is management of the topics coverred in the subject syllabus, that will be verified by the exam. The exam consists of two parts: written one and oral one. To succesfully pass the subject, student must write the tests during the term. The marks from all tests will be included into the final mark. According to the Masaryk university Study regulations, there will be no re-corections of these tests written during the term. Dates of these tests will be announced via IS at the beginning of the semester. Fulfiling the requirements is the necessity to be allowed to sit the final exam. The attendance is compulsory.
