- Course objectives
- At the end of this lecture student will be able to manage systeme of Czech phonetics and phonology and its standard, cultured form and Czech ortography. Student will be able to explain the fundamental phonetic and phonemic concepts and terms. Student will understand the principles of orthophonic and orthoepic. Students will master the system of vowels and true consonants in the group of sonors and glides.Student will understand the syllable structure, segmentation of the continuous speech and variants of the pronunciation of the phonemes in continuous speech. Student will be familliar with phonological strangeness in the Czech language in loan words and will understand the similarities between sounds and written form of the Czech language.

- 1. Fundamental terms of phonetic and phonology. 2. Orthophony and orthoepy. 3. Physiology and analysis of speaking. 4. Sounds, their articulation and classification. 5. Structure of continuous speech. Differences in pronunciation of phonemes in continuous speech. 6.Phonological strangeness in Czech , pronunciation of loan words. 7. Sound structure of the Czech language and its graphic record.

- Teaching methods
- Lecture followed by a discussion. The discussion will cover the topics listed in the syllabus.
- Assessment methods
- The expectations for the succesful conclusion of the lecture is passing the continuous written test that will cover the topics discussed in the lectures and seminars. Continuous tests will target the list of Czech sounds, phonetics transcription, and clasification of Czech sounds. The maximum of allowed mistakes will be delivered to the students in the lecture. The course coveres ortography as well. The sudents will be checked according to the Pravidla českého pravopisu (Czech Orthography Rules): 1st part - naming of the sounds by letters, abbrevations, symbols) 2nd part -capital letters, borders of the words in writing, dividing signs). 3 mistakes are allowed in 20 sentences. According to the Masaryk University Study regulations, there will be no re-sits for these continuous tests. The dates for these controls will be told the students via IS at the beginning of the term.
