- Course objectives
- At the end of the course, a participant is supposed to: – understand rules of a communication via media; – be able to use the above mentioned knowledge in practice, i.e. s/he is able to apply topics of media education as a means of the development of pupils’ fluent discourse; – be familiar with possibilities of media education, which are used for enrichment and enlarging of pupils’ vocabulary knowledge and their maximum involvement during group and individual work; – understand basic theoretical, methodical and didactical approaches to media education; – be able to find advice in specialized literature in case of doubts.

- 1. Media education as a cross-curricular subject in the Framework Education Programme for Elementary Education and possibilities of its usage in lessons of Czech language and literature at upper primary schools. Basic theoretical, methodical and didactical approaches to media education. 2. Mass media. An influence of media on an audience. An influence of violence via media on children. 3. Media and news service. Genres of news services and journalism. 4. Media and marketing. Media and advertising. 5. Media and entertainment. Reality show as an influential genre of TV entertainment. 6. Media regulation and autoregulation.

- Teaching methods
- The initial part of the consultation will be devoted to a brief exposition, supplemented with an illustrative presentation and concrete examples. In the main part of the consultation, relevant topics from the field of media studies will be included practically. Participants will be also presented possibilities how to enrich pupils’ vocabulary knowledge via an application of topics from media studies in lessons of Czech language and literature and how to lead pupils to an improvement of their fluent discourse.
- Assessment methods
- To prepare a lesson plan of media education (including a theoretical base for teachers, worksheets for pupils, samples, etc.). The check of skills will be implemented on the basis of individual interviews with course participants.
