Course objectives
At the end of the course students should be able to: (1) understand and explain basic morfological and anatomical information about selected invertebrate animals (acquired with help of on dissecting their bodies); (2) to connect it with the knowledge about their reproduction and (3) development; and (4) with the knowledge about their ecology and (5) distribution.

  • 1. Protozoa: Paramecium caudatum
  • 2. Cnidaria: Hydra oligactis
  • 3. Platyhelminthes: Dugesia conocephala
  • 4. Nematoda: Ascaris suis
  • 5. Mollusca I - Gastropoda: Helix pomatia
  • 6. Mollusca II - Bivalvia: Anodonta cygnea (Mytilus edulis)
  • 7. Mollusca III - Cephalopoda: Sepia officinalis (Loligo vulgaris)
  • 8. Annelida: Lumbricus terrestis (Tubifex tubifex)
  • 9. Arthropoda I - Chelicerata: Araneus diadematus
  • 10. Crustacea I - Entomostraca: Daphnia pulex, Cyclops strenuus
  • 11. Crustacea II - Malacostraca: Gammarus fossarum, Astacus fluviatilis (Pandalus borealis)
  • 12. Insecta = Ectognatha I - Hemimetabola: Blatta orientalis

Teaching methods
Laboratory practices - mostly dissections of selected animals (see the programme above) carried out in couples under supervision of the tutor.
Assessment methods
Requirements for credit: (1.) active participation on practices and (2.) final presentation of completed exercise book or documents with work sheets, original drawings, event. coloured anatomy tables prepared by tutor.
