- Course objectives
- It is expected the students are acquainted with basic literary theory and practice. The aim of the course is to acquaint students with basic literary theory and and teach them how to use its tools in reading and analysis. The starting point will be provided by activities related to the definition of literature and the process and practice of reading. We will then proceed to more technical and practical instruments of literary theory, which assist better understanding and greater enjoyment of reading.
- Learning outcomes
- After the successful passing of the course students will:
- acquire the necessary vocabulary to describe literary and other cultural works of art;
- learn to work with the specific vocabulary connected to literary history;
- critically assess the literary text and apply the terminology on its analysis;
- understand the differences between individual literary periods and genres;
- distinguish between different genres by identifying their main characteristics;
- understand the differences between theoretical approaches;
- apply the approaches to a specific literary and other cultural material; - Syllabus
