Course objectives
The students win a basic competence in the syntax of contemporary Czech language syntax.
(a) the ability to explain syntactical terms;
(b) the ability to use theoretical knowledge when analysing the sentence, complex and compound sentence;
(c) using the ability of sentential analysis when teaching in the primary school.
Learning outcomes
In the end of the course students:
(a) know and are able to explain the terminology of the syntax;
(b) are able to explain the semantics and communicative function of the sentencial utterance in context;
(c) master analysis of the sentence, complex sentence and compound sentence, are able to interprete the sentential constituents and relationships among them;
(d) are able to analyse compound sentences and complex sentences and to draw the graphs depicting their structures.
Syllabus
  • 1. Modality of the sentence. Indicative, interrogative, imperative and optative sentence. Types of questions.
  • 2. Negation in the syntax. Sentence with negation and sentence without negation. Word-order in the simple sentence.
  • 3. Non-subjective sentences. Equivalent of the sentence.
  • 4. Sentential constituents. Subject and predicate. Expressing of subject and predicate by word classes. Grammatical concordance of predicate and subject.
  • 5. Controlled sentential constituent. Object, attribute, verbal attribute/complement. Expressing of them by word classes.
  • 6. Adverbial and type of it.
  • 7. Syntactical relations (coordination, determination, predication), their expression. Determination - congruence, governance, association/adjunction. Sentence analysis. Graphical scheme of the structure of sentence. Punktuation.
  • 8. Sentence, complex sentence and compound sentence. Compound sentence. Co-ordination and expression of the coordinative relationships.
  • 9. Complex sentence. Sub-ordination. Types of subordinated clauses (subjective, objective, attributive, complementive).
  • 10. Adverb clauses and types of them. 11. Compound sentence with the complicated structure (with co-ordination and sub-ordination). Complex sentence with the complicated structure. Punctuation in the sentence, in the compound sentence and in the complex sentence. Graphical scheme of the compound sentence and of complex sentence.
  • 12. Some irregularities in the sentential structures.

- Controlled dialogue on problems of terminology
- Problem methods, methods of the critical thinking (brainstorming, "map" of train of though...)
- Text analysis, analysis of sentence, compound and combined sentence
- Study hours
- Testing of practical knowledge by individual written tasks. IN THE AUTUMN 2020 THE LECTURES ARE REALIZED ONLINE IN MS TEAMS.
Assessment methods
- regular partipation in the seminary work
- written examination: the themen of it examination are included in syllabus or see the adress http://moodlinka.ped.muni.cz/course/view.php?id=675.
The written examination includes 80-100 elementary syntactical questions. To be succesfull the student has to answer 75 % of the elementary questions correctly.
