Course objectives
The aim of the course is to acquaint students with the field of special education of visually impaired at the level of bachelor study with a focus on lifelong learning. Students will be presented with the definition of the field and its interdisciplinary position, the system of education of this target group and specific measures and support in early, preschool and school age.
Learning outcomes
students should be able to: - Determine visual impairment, occurrence and causes, combined disability, peculiarities of psychological processes and personality development in visually impaired people; - to know the specifics of a child with visual impairment in early, preschool and school age, counseling and intervention; - to understand the education system for the visually impaired in our country, to know the technical aids and equipment, the role of special pedagogical centers; - know how to specify Braille, how to write it; basic aids for people with visual impairments of different ages
Syllabus
  • 1. Paradigm of ophthalmopedies - definition of the field, history of support of persons with visual impairment in the Czech Republic and abroad, interdisciplinary cooperation
  • 2. The circle of people with visual impairment. The impact of visual impairment on an individual's personality (perception, thinking, attention, behavior, speech). Psychomotor development of a visually impaired child.
  • 3. Physiology of the vision process. Development of visual perception.
  • 4. Visual defects, types of visual defects, etiology, manifestations. Examination of vision and visual functions.
  • 5. Early care - the theoretical basis of early care, forms and services. An early age child and his family.
  • 6. Child with visual impairment at pre-school age, school maturity and school readiness (preschool education, child with disturbed binocular vision and reeducation of these defects)
  • 7. Child with visual disability in school age. Specifics of teaching. Teacher assistant work.
  • 8. Compensation aids for people with visual impairment and work with them. Use of computer technology in the education of pupils with visual impairment.
  • 9. The system of education of pupils with visual impairments in the Czech Republic from pre-school age to adolescence.
  • 10. Counseling, support and intervention in pre-school and school attendance. Advice on training and career choice.
  • 11. Communication of Persons with Disabilities - Braille teaching and writing. Access to information.
