- Course objectives
- The aim of the seminar is to get the students acquainted with the most important historical, cultural and social events in Germany, Austria and Switzerland and to get the students to be able to translate and interpret these events.
- Learning outcomes
- At the end of the seminar, learners will be able to
- explain the most important historical, cultural and social phenomena and events in the recent history of the countries of the German-speaking area,
- be able to interpret and present these phenomena in a relevant way. - Syllabus
- Groups of learners will choose one of the broader topics introduced briefly at the beginning of the seminar and prepare a presentation on the chosen topic to be presented at the end of the seminar:
- Topic headings:
- Society I
- - social life, holidays, customs, traditions
- Society II
- - everyday life, eating habits, taboo topics, social clichés, prejudices, issues of tolerance
- Education - school system - basic data, quality of teaching
- Art
- - basic knowledge of: visual arts, literature, architecture Music, Film
- - the most famous works of classical and modern music, brief development of film and the most famous film works
- Geography - cities, landscapes, tourism, tips for visiting important sites
- Politics
- - political system, political division of the country, major political parties
- Science - important scientific fields, inventions
- Sport
- - sports typical of the country in the German language area

- Project teaching
For full-time students, a manual will be created containing a precise project assignment, recommendations for the work procedure for the project assignment, rules for constructive feedback, space for reflective diary (self-evaluation of own study progress).
The following methods apply to combined study students: lectures, homework, working on presentations and their evaluation, project working - Assessment methods
- The evaluation of the outputs will take place in the form of an evaluation of the presentations at the end of the seminar with the participation of the authors of the presentations and the teachers.
- Náhradní absolvování
- Students studying abroad will have their individual study plan (ISP) recognized and will be able to fulfill the requirements they are allowed to fulfill the requirements (after agreement with the lecturers at the beginning of the respective semester) in distance form. Possible recognition of the course (for a course at the host university) should be discussed with the lecturer before the start of the semester.
