- Course objectives
- The aim of this course is to obtain a clear knowledge of the subject optics at university level. Emphasis is placed on the logical construction of the science disciplines and to acquire knowledge and skills needed for teaching physics at the primary school (it is included lectures to a large number of simple experiments and emphasized the relationship discussed the substance of the practice, nature, home, etc.).
- Syllabus
- Optics Basic ideas about light. The evolution of views on the nature of light, the dual nature of light. Speed of light. Basic laws of propagation of light. Light as electromagnetic vawe, its properties. Maxwell's equations in optics and resolution. Power transferred by electromagnetic wave, Poyntig's vector.Polarization of electromagnetic waves. Photometry. Basic photometric terms of quantity and units.Interaction of light and material. Consequences arising from Maxwell's theory for the interaction of light and non-absorbing medium. Fresnel's formula for the case isotropic non-absorbing medium. Optical properties of metals. Interference light, conditions for noticeable interference. Coherent light sources - lasers. Young's attempt, finges of the same inclination and the same thickness, thin-layer interference. The use of interference. Diffraction of light - the basic principles. Holography and its use.
