- Course objectives
- Thanks to the completion of the course students understand the importance of media education for pupils of primary and secondary schools. The course is focused on the practical application of theoretical knowledge in the field of mass media for teaching media education in primary schools and secondary subject in the context of civic education, basic social sciences and other subjects.
- Learning outcomes
- After completing the course the student should be able to describe the basic types of media, to orientate in the ownership structure of the media on the Czech market and to understand the principles of media content creation. In addition, he should be able to critically analyze the content of the media and evaluate its relation to social reality.
- Syllabus
- In the context of the subject is given to issues based on Framework training programs for primary school and secondary-critical perception of media communication, the interpretation of the relationship of media and reality, the construction of media communication, perception of the author of the communication media, the media and influence in society. Lessons: - What is media and what is communication - Character system and meaning formation - Media in society, media and society - Media history - Audience and impact of communication - Media contents and their creation - The geopolitical context of news content: orientalism and distant others - Media and popular culture - New media and what is it?

- Homework, seminar discussions, one active presentation (current event)
- Assessment methods
- Students get credits for continuous work in a seminar, seminar presentation and a seminar preparation according to the current syllable. The syllable is available before the beginning of the semester in the organizational materials of the course in IS MU. Participation in the seminars is compulsory, there are possible two abstentions.
