Course objectives
The aim is to acquaint students with the laws affecting the performance of the teaching profession and they are useful in teaching civic education.
Learning outcomes
The student is able to orientate in basic legal concepts, to understand the importance of the function of law in the modern state and to apply the necessary laws in his / her future practice.
Syllabus
  • 1. Introduction to the study of law - discussion seminar: the law around us. Law and justice. Law and morality/ethics. Legal cultures. 2. Having a right, having a claim, having a duty. Law v. right. Division of law - subjective and objective law. Private and public law. Substantive and procedural law. Characteristics of legal branches. 3. Rule of law - characteristics, types, scope of application. EU legal norms. 4. Sources of law. Retroactivity and analogy in law. Legal order of the Czech Republic. EU and international law. 5. "Legal relations" (especially subjects of law - natural and legal persons. Legal actions. 6. System of courts. Dispute resolution in law. 7. Law proffesions. 8. Basic differences between civil and criminal proceedings. 9. Selected issues of private law - contracts. 10. Selected issues of private law - employment contracts, business, neighbour disputes. 11. Selected issues of public law - criminal offence, penalty and misdemeanor. 12. Discussion of current legal issues in society.
