Course objectives
- the student determines the type of test item and evaluates its difficulty;
- the student correctly formulates different types of learning tasks;
- the student draws up a worksheet for a specific lesson of Natural History;
- the student explains the typical features of didactics test;
- the student constructs and evaluates the didactic test;
- the student distinguishes and names the various types of natural science teaching methods according to the Altmann classification;
- the student proposes a composition of nature in the corner of living nature with regard to its use in teaching of Natural History;
- the student designs and creates a collection or exhibition of natural products;
- the student proposes the establishment of animal breeding for use in teachnig of Natural History;
Learning outcomes
At the end of the course the student will be able to:
- evaluate the didactic equipment of the selected Natural History textbook;
- distinguish and use different types of teaching aids;
- distinguish and evaluate different types of test items;
- manage collections of natural products;
- design a corner of living nature;
- propose the establishment of animal husbandry;
- evaluate the textbook of Natural History;
- assess the professional correctness of books and texts for teaching;
- elaborate a selected teaching aid for his use in the lesson of natural history;
- design and use a diagnostic tool to measure the level of student knowledge and skills.

  • 1) Teaching methods: definition of the term, different approaches to their classification
  • 2) Monological teaching methods
  • 3) Dialogic teaching methods
  • 4) Visually demonstrative teaching methods
  • 5) Practical teaching methods
  • 6) Activating teaching methods: definition of the term, different approaches to their classification
  • 7) Group activating methods
  • 8) Didactic games as a means of teaching Natural history
  • 9) Board games with a science theme
  • 10) Implementation and management phase of teaching natural history
  • 11) Diagnostics in the teaching of Natural history: repetition and testing
  • 12) Diagnostics in the teaching of Natural history: didactic test and its construction

  • 1) Use of resources in teaching Natural history: presentation of different types of resources for teaching natural history
  • 2) Learning tasks and their use in teaching of Natural History
  • 3) Typology of test tasks (items) according to Chráska
  • 4) Principles of correct formulation of learning tasks
  • 5) Worksheet construction
  • 6) Observation and determination of organisms in their natural environment (excursion to the park)
  • 7) Experiment and its use in teaching Natural history
  • 8) Group activating methods
  • 9) Didactic games and their use in the lesson of Natural History: demonstration of games available on the market and games that the teacher can make by himself
  • 10) Board games and their potential for science education
  • 11) Didactic tests: typical features, types of tests, demonstration of tests

Assessment methods: creating of materials to the "Portfolio of Beginning Teacher of Natural History", written test, oral exam, Fulifilling requirements: - active participation in exercises (1 absence is tolerated) - submition of all materials in the "Portfolio of Beginning Teacher of Natural History" - Exam: 1) Written test (75% required), 2) A discussion of the materials from the "Portfolio of Beginning Teacher of Natural History"
