This course is for students from the Faculty of Arts. Previous knowledge from secondary school is required. The aim of the course is to achieve a B2 level (based on CEFR). The course is not intended for native speakers.

Course objectives
The course is intended for students of non-professional specializations and is aimed at deepening linguistic and academic knowledge with regard to the student's field of study. The aim of the course is to reach level B2 of the CEFR.
Learning outcomes
Upon completion of the course, the student will be able to: watch with comprehension broadcast media, documentary programmes, live interviews, films in written language, understand longer speeches and lectures and other forms of academic and professional presentations, understand monologic and dialogic speeches of a general nature on current topics, common communication spheres and basic topics of study, has the ability to select essential information needed to understand a text and then solve problems, reliably understands instructions and messages related to concrete and abstract topics spoken at normal speed in written language, can use language fluently, accurately and effectively, and can communicate spontaneously and grammatically correctly and produce coherent speech, can give a clear and systematically developed description and presentation, highlighting the main ideas and giving the necessary details, can explain his/her perspective on the topic at hand and state the advantages and disadvantages of different approaches, can produce a large detailed text (300-400 words) on a variety of topics in professional life, using typical sentence phrases and topic-specific phrases, master the basic formats of formal written expression such as: CV, application, cover letter, report, essay, resume of a professional lecture/article, e-mail.

Teaching methods
Presentations, discussions, work with authentic materials and specialised texts, group work.
Assessment methods
The course will be assessed on the basis of compulsory portfolio assignments and continuous assignments during the semester, the exam is in the format of presentation + discussion. The exam can be taken after the portfolio assignments have been completed and submitted. (70%) and active work in seminars is mandatory.
