- Course objectives
- The objective is to broaden the professional, language, and cultural competencies of the student within good practice, thus increasing the quality of the graduates and their application in practice.
- Learning outcomes
- After finishing this course, students will have been able to:
Use professional, linguistic, and cultural competencies gained in a foreign internship.
Use examples of good practice.
Increase their competitiveness in the labor market. - Syllabus
- An internship abroad is defined as one of the following activities carried out during the semester in question, the first of which is worth two credits, the others five credits. 1. A pair of consultations with foreign experts on a given topic (ideally with early career researchers) in the form of a video call. These video interviews will be recorded and then accompanied by a report of 5-7 pages each. These reports will explain the selection of the consultant, introduce him/her, his/her work, and relationship to the topic under discussion, analyze the course of the consultation concerning the research questions under investigation, and evaluate the possible impact on the student's Master's thesis. It is ideal for each consultant to prepare some material in English in advance, introducing the student's research, the field of interest, and the specific chapter to be discussed. / two credits
- 2. Active participation in an international conference or workshop (currently eligible for Excellence Programme funding).
- 3. Work or study placement abroad (currently eligible for Excellence funding)
- 4. A standard Erasmus+ semester study internship.
- The student prepares the internship mainly in cooperation with his/her supervisor or with the departmental coordinator for Erasmus - in coordination with other responsible persons depending on the type of internship.
- The selection for the placement or the application for financial support is based on the given selection rules (depending on the type of support program).
- The selection process will normally include a cover letter detailing the purpose, duration, and content of the placement, although this will, of course, vary depending on the type of placement.
- The final decision as to whether a placement will be offered or accepted as a course outcome is subject to the approval of the course leader.
- It is recommended that you take advantage of the Erasmus+ program, which is the most administratively simple and financially advantageous form of an internship.
- Teaching methods
- Foreign internship, internship report.
The course has two options, two-credit and five-credit:
(a) two video-call consultations (see above) resulting in a pair of 5-7 page reports (see above),
(b) in the form of an overseas internship, with the output being the confirmed internship itself, or specific report(s) from the internship if required.
The course may be registered for either at the beginning of the semester in which the student is due to undertake the internship if the student knows for certain that he/she will complete the internship properly, or in the semester following the completion of the internship. - Assessment methods
- A written report of the internship, depending on the type of traineeship. In the case of video consultations, it takes the form of the reports explained above; in Erasmus, it is not required, and it is sufficient to submit the final record of the courses taken; in the case of conferences or short-term internships, the form of the report is consulted as needed with the person responsible for arranging the trip with the student, which will be primarily the supervisor in coordination with other responsible persons in the department.
