- Course objectives
- The aim of the course is to develop students' ability to read Polish scientific, journalistic and literary texts focusing on Poland and the Poles, to practice critical text reading, art of argumentation, Polish vocabulary and translation. This course may be a suitable complement to Polish language course.
- Learning outcomes
- After completion of the course student will be able:
- to analyze and interpret works, texts or selected passages,
- to draw up a summary of the Polish text,
- to understand the important topics of social, political and cultural events in Poland, to discuss them using appropriate lexis,
- to exemplify selected stereotypes and autostereotypes related to Poles with appropriate Polish texts. - Syllabus

- 2. Polish mentality: stereotypes and auto-stereotypes in the perception of Poles
- 3. Collective memory of the Poles
- 4. The relations of the Poles to the neighboring nations

- 7. Personalities of Polish popular culture
- 8. Tastes and smells of Polish cuisine
- 9. Catholic Church and Polish society

- A team analysis of the texts and a class discussion on the topics that concern them. Filling in worksheets (written answers to control questions).
- Assessment methods
- Student will receive a credit for regular active participation (two absences are allowed) and compulsory home preparation.
