Thorough knowledge of Latin (in extend of the B. A. State Exam in Latin Language and Literature, but the Exam itself is not required).

Course objectives
The lecture provides an overwiew of the Latin literary production in Europe from the late antiquity to the high Middle Ages.
Syllabus
  • The most important genres of medieval Latin literature and their development; Specific features of the medieval literature; Preconditions of literary development in the late Roman times; Overview of the Latin patristics; So called interim period in different parts of Europe; 9th-10th century - Carolingian Renaissance and Ottonian Renaissance; 11th century - beginning of the medieval Latin literatures blossoming;

Závěrečné hodnocení formou kolokvia. Je vyžadován obecný přehled o dosud probrané látce. Součástí kolokvia je překlad vybraného latinského textu.
