Course objectives
Introduction into Baltic studies ant their methods. At the end of the course students should be able to: understand and explain different definitions of the subject of Baltic studies and Baltic region itself; - work with information on the history of baltic languagues, their diachronical development and on contemporary socio-linguistical situation.
Syllabus
  • 1) Geography of the Baltic region. 2) Baltic toponyms. 3) Interdisciplinary connections: linguistics and anthropology. 4) Interdisciplinary connections: linguistics and philology. 5) Cultural strata, religions ant ethnics in the Baltic region. 6) Lithuania and Prussia. 7) Latvia and Estonia. 8) Finland and Scandinavia. 9) Geopolitical definition of Baltic region.
