Course objectives
After an introduction to the theme seminars will be devoted to the analyses of well-known literary works from the national revival period, which will be compared with other contemporary Czech and foreign literary works, in a less degree with literary works from other periods. Students make use of their knowledge, especially in literary theory and cultural history. The aim is to acquire the basic literary works of the Czech national revival period.

  • Seminars are devoted mainly to the analyses of the following authors's works: Jan Kollár, F. L. Čelakovský, K. J. Erben, Božena Němcová, Karel Havlíček Borovský.

Teaching methods
Seminars, 1½ hours per week; a reading of the disscus topic, a short oral presentation of reports, a written summary of the reports; a collective interpretation, class discussion.
