- Course objectives
- The course is devoted to elementary instructions on the preparation of texts from various historical periods, to methods of their linguistic and formal processing. At the end of the course students will know the basic terminology of textology and editology, will be able to make proofreadings, will be well informed about textological and typographical preparation of texts for editorial practice. We expect to use computer tools during the course. Part of the course will be an excursion to a publishing house or a visit of an expert in editorial work.

- books and book market – the history of manufacturing books, the book as a material ob-ject and as a commodity, the specifics of e-books, book market in the ČR
- proofreading – rules of proofreading, proofreading marks
- typography – the history of script, the visual aspect of the book, the main principles of ty-pography
- textology – editing texts of 19th and 20th century, identifying the source text
- kinds of editions – characteristics of different types of publication of texts (scientific and readers' editions), the creation of the critical apparatus
- editing the old literature – the specifics of the edition of old texts, form of a text source, the transcription, the transliteration
- the modern practice of edition – principles for the preparation of editions, software tools
