- Course objectives
- Libraries have become sophisticated institutions with new information technologies over the past few decades, and the user places their trust in Professor Google. At a time when "alternative facts" appear next to possible verifiability, the role of the librarian takes on a new, all-society responsibility. In addition to a specific question about the profession, about responsibility for the library and information science pedagogy, there is now a more general question about user education. Can they be separated from each other? Or is it to leave mobile search engines and trust in social networks? Does it concern us at all? The aim of the seminar will be to organize a debate that will lead to the definition of key issues within four days of strategic planning, identifying the parameters of possible solutions, and finally to a concrete idea of the ideal of the modern library profession and the ways of its fulfillment. In addition, the course itself offers participants a model and methodology of constructive planning.
- Syllabus
- The scenario workshop planning methodology offers a way to navigate in a complex situation, gain insight and lead us to unusual solutions. The first working day is devoted to the problem. After the morning introductory lecture on the responsibility of libraries in the wake of the growing educational crisis, the challenges raised will be determined by the heated debate in the popular "aquarium". After acquaintance with the methodology of strategic planning follows the division into groups. The second and third days are devoted to the next stages with inter-outputs that will lead to model solutions and their presentation to the entire class. This is Thursday afternoon to be pleasant about the concrete results, but mainly with the belief that it is possible, even necessary, to see things differently. The working languages are Czech and Slovak. Passive English is appropriate, but not necessary.
