- Course objectives
- At the end of this course, students should be able to:
understand and explain the basics of Latin morphology;
apply their knowledge of normative grammar;
create simple sentences in Latin;
identify unknown syntactic phenomena on account of the already acquired knowledge. - Syllabus
- Introduction to Latin language, alphabet, pronunciation and accent. Latin grammatical categories in comparison with the Czech ones. Introduction to declension and conjugation.
- 1st declension nouns, basic prepositions.
- 1st conjugation (present, imperfect and future indicative, imperative, present infinitive); translation of passive forms, expression of agent.
- 2nd declension nouns, 1st and 2nd declension adjectives.
- Verb esse, compounds of the verb esse. Adverbs of 1st and 2nd declension adjectives.
- 2nd conjugation (present, imperfect and future indicative, imperative, present infinitive).
- 3rd declension nouns.
- 3rd and 4th conjugation, mixed conjugation (type capio) - present, imperfect and future indicative, imperative, present infinitive.
- Deponent verbs.
- 3rd declension adjectives, present participle and its use.
- Adverbs of 3rd declension adjectives, personal pronouns, possessive pronouns, demonstrative prononus is, idem, possessive genitive and dative.
- Double accusative construction, accusative with infinitive.

- Planned learning activities and teaching methods consist of seminars (grammar exercises and translation). Active class attendance and preparatory homeworks are required.
