- The course is offered to students of any study field.
- Course objectives
- In this subject, the phonetic and phonological system of the Catalan language will be analyzed, taking into account the geographical variation that it presents. Students will acquire notions about phonetic transcription(adaptation of IPA to Catalan) and will study various segmental and suprasegmental phenomena (intonation, tone, rhythm, etc.) that affect the Catalan language. Likewise, the ortholoepical norm of Catalan will be explained and the current problems will be analyzed. At the end of the course, students should be able to: - Know the phonological system of Catalan. - Understand the phonetic system of Catalan and its variations. - Transcribe, phonetically, according to IPA, the sounds of Catalan. - Understand the segmental and suprasegmental phenomena affecting the Catalan language. - Apply the orthoepic norm of Catalan and the problems it presents for speakers nowadays.
