Course objectives
The aim of the course is to provide students with the basic knowledge of French (A0-A1 CEFR).
Learning outcomes
At the end of the course students should be able to:
- pronounce and distinguish French phonemes;
- introduce him/herself and others and ask and answer questions about personal details;
- interact in a very simple way in everyday situations (shop, street, cafe);
- talk about the past;
- ask for informationm, make an appointement.

  • 1. Presentation of yourself (Dossier 0).
  • 2. Request (Dossier 1).
  • 3. Questions.
  • 4. Presentation of someone else; Francophonie.
  • 5. Names of states and towns.
  • 6. Expressing future time; Family.
  • 7. Request (Unit 4).
  • 8. Expressing past time; Pets.
  • 9. Suggestions; Date, hour (Unit 5).
  • 10. Arranging appointments; Free time.
  • 11. Expressing point of view (Unit 6).
  • 12. Getting informed; Gifts.
  • Grammar: conjugation of regular verbs (-er, -ir), irregular verbs (être, avoir, faire, aller, pouvoir, vouloir, venir, connaître, savoir, croire, offrir), imperative, future tense, compound past, pronouns (personal, possessive), numbers 0-1000, definite and indefinite article, il y a.

Teaching methods
All the basic methods of CLT programme (Communicative Language TEaching)are used: individual, pair, group activities (conversation, practice, drill). Audition. Homework extended to e-learning self-study (elf.phil.muni.cz).
Assessment methods
1. Written final test (grammar, vocabulary, translation), minimum pass level 70%.
2. Submission of six written translations before the end of semester is obligatory (see ELF).
3. Attendance at 17 seminars minimum during the semester is obligatory (seminars take place twice a week).
4. Completion of all mandatory activities (exercises) in the ELF (see conditions in the aplication "Course completion").
