- Course objectives
- The aim of the course is to check whether students themselves are able to understand selected idylls by Theocritus.
- Learning outcomes
- At the end of the course, students:
- should be able to translate one selected drama of Aristophanes in a correct way;
- understand the literary and historical context, on the basis of which they are able to interpret the piece;
- are also well informed about the Greek metres;
- understand and can explain the non-attic forms (doric, aeolic);
- know and use the later explanatory comments and commentaries (scholia). - Syllabus
- Reading and translating idylls 1; 2; 5; 7; 11; 15; 30; by Theocritus.
- Use of dictionaries, commentaries and grammar books.
- Linguistic analysis of the text.

- The course is not being taught in the standard form, but through the consultations during which the students solve the actual problems and answer questions concerning the text prescribed for translation.
