No prior knowledge of Japanese is required. Students are required to register this course together with course JAPNN11. The course is dedicated for students not enrolled in the Japanese studies programme and is taught in Czech. - Course Enrolment Limitations

- Course objectives
- The objective of the course consists in providing a basic knowledge of spoken Japanese for beginners who have no prior knowledge of the language. The course aims at the development of speaking and listening skills. Hiragana and katakana will be used throughout the course. At the end of the course, successful students should be able to participate in simple communicative acts using Japanese (limited to the most elementary situations).
- Learning outcomes
- At the end of the course students will be able to
define the principles of constructing simple Japanese sentences; translate the meaning of simple Japanese sentences;
apply learned vocabulary, grammatical rules and sentence patterns in basic communication;
distinguish some of the basic categories of Japanese grammar;
construct simple sentences;
judge the accuracy of applying learned grammatical rules, vocabulary and sentence patterns in the most common life situations . - Syllabus
- 1. Introduction to the structure of the course, basic characteristics of the Japanese language;
- 2. Self-introduction, topical sentence structure, basic questions;
- 3. Attributive constructions with the particle no, basic number expressions;
- 4. Vocabulary, time expressions I, age expressions, review;
- 5. Demonstratives I, negative form of copula, phraseology;
- 6. Demonstratives II, particle mo in topical sentence structure, Japanese food;
- 7. Vocabulary, number expressions, shopping;
- 8. Review, basic constructions with verbs, verbs of movement;
- 9. Vocabulary and phraseology, conjugation of verbs, action verbs;
- 10. Constructions with verbs, case particles, time expressions II;
- 11. Polite offer, polite invitation, adverbs, vocabulary;
- 12. Final review.
