Course objectives
Introductory course to the Italian literary tradition of the 14th century through its most representative authors. The course will be divided into two modules: in the first the most representative figures of the Italian fourteenth century: Dante, Petrarch and Boccaccio; in the second we will observe the influence that the Divina Dante's Divine Comedy had on the contemporary. We will analyse the readaptation of the figure of Dante's Ulysses through the reading of Alfred Tennyson, Primo Levi, Umberto Saba, Cesare Pavese and James Joyce. Students will be accompanied in the reading of a selection of texts, and guided to the contextualisation of the literary texts examined.
Learning outcomes
The course aims to familiarise students with Italian literary history and provide them with the critical tools necessary for the analysis of Italian literary texts. Students will be accompanied in the study of the foundations of prosody, philology and stylistic analysis.
