Course objectives
Course description. prof. Jeřábek: Czech literature from the "Revival Period" to the "Ruch" and "Lumír" generations of the eighteen sixties and seventies. Literature as a specific manifestation of the spiritual life of a nation in historically important periods. The development of theoretical thinking about literature in a given period will be traced and the essential reference literature will be discussed. Interpretations of texts based on seminar papers.
dr. Kudrnáč: The seminar is outlined as a complementation of a lecture on 19th century Czech literature. The sessions are devoted to authors and problems of Czech literature in a comparative perspective, in relation to Czech literature of different periods as well as in relation to other literatures.
mgr. Urválková: The aim of the seminar is to stimulate the student to the reading of chosen works and to independent thinking about them on the basis of their knowledge in literary history and theory. The topics are chosen so as to reflect the changes of the genre of Czech historical prose (not exclusively) in nineteenth century literature in the context of European literary evolution.
