Le cours se veut une introduction aux problèmes du roman français contemporain. Il s'agit d'une initiation active et critique. De ce fait, il faut non seulement maîtriser l'expression française et tchèque mais aussi être capable de lire et commenter de façon critique des textes qui ne sont pas encore interprétés ou expliqués et d'établir des liens entre une problématique sociale, non littéraire, et le texte littéraire.

Course objectives
Main objectives can be summarized as follows:
to understand the basic problems of contemporary french fiction;
to learn the a basic textual analysis method;
to analyze a novel by any contemporary french writer from the list as follows:
Jean Rouaud, Michel Houellebecq, François Bon, Benoît Duteurtre, Jean Echenoz and others.
to present this author and his work;
to understand and analyze the changing faces of the modern world in this novel;
Syllabus
  • 1st week - Presentation of the course, Introduction, structure, Literature, requirements; 2nd week - Problems of french contemporary literature, methodology; 3rd week - Main terms of methodology (modernity, individualism, reality, subject); 4th-11th week - Papers, analysis, discussion, conclusions. 12e semaine - Evaluation

Assessment methods
Course requirements: 1) Paper presenting the chosen author and his work. Animate a discussion with other participants of the course (Extracts from analysed work and questions must be sent before) 2) Essay in french (issue to be consulted with the teacher) 3) Recension in czech of the analysed novel(2 pages maximum)
