- Course objectives
- The main aim of the course can be summarized as follows: to learn elementary Latin grammar, especially its morphology; to learn and use basic Latin gramatical terminology; to employ grammatical rules in translating sentences and simple texts into Latin; to approach systematically to the grammatical structure of language; to analyze sentences and use the analysis in translating; to distinguish similarities and differences between various morphological forms;

- Perfect stem, perfect indicative.
- Indefinite pronouns.
- Pluperfect and future perfect indicative. Cum iterativum.
- Direct questions.
- Perfect and pluperfect conjunctive.
- Conjunctives in simple and subordinate clauses (conditional, cum historicum, indirect questions). Sequence of tenses.
- Supine, perfect and future infinitives.
- Gerund and gerundive.
- Accusative and nominative with infinitive construction.
- Ablative absolute.
- Irregular verbs velle, nolle, malle, fieri, ire, ferre and their compounds. Semideponent verbs.

- Assessment methods
- Lectures, practice, homework, reading of simple Latin texts, translation. The credit is awarded for active participation in the class, submission of assignments and completion of control tests. Five shorter written tests take place during the semester. A longer complex test is written at the end of the semester. For passing, the final test must be succesfully completed and the overall grade from the smaller tests must be over 70 %. An oral examination follows the written test, which examines the theoretical as well as practical understanding of the Latin grammar covered.

The course is taught annually.
General note: Předmět je povinný pro studenty latinského jazyka a literatury, klasické filologie a jednooborové klasické řečtiny.
