- Course objectives
- At the end of the course students should be able to:
reproduce grammatical rules and paradigms studied within the course (see syllabus of the course);
use basic Latin grammatical terminology associated with the grammar studied within the course;
apply grammatical rules in translating sentences into Latin and into Czech;
describe the grammatical structure of a clause and distinguish morphological and syntactic devices used in the sentence;
use synonymous expressive means to express selected grammatical phenomena;
learn by heart selected Latin vocabulary (with emphasis on verbs). - Syllabus
- 4th and 5th declension, demonstrative pronouns.
- Interrogative and relative pronouns, relative clauses; negative pronouns; pronominal adjectives.
- Comparison of adjectives and adverbs.
- Present conjunctive (1st-4th conjugation and esse).
- Imperfect conjunctive (1st-4th conjugation and esse).
- Use of the present and imperfect conjunctive in selected types of subordinate clauses (ut / ne clauses, cum historicum, conditional clauses).
- Numerals.
- Perfect stem, perfect active indicative.
- Perfect passive participle, perfect passive indicative.
- Participium coniunctum, ablative absolute.
- Plusquamperfect and future perfect indicative and its use in subordinate clauses.

- Teaching methods
- Lectures, practice, homework, reading of simple Latin texts, translation.
- Assessment methods
- Five or six written tests take place during the semester. Attendance to the tests is obligatory. For passing, students have to
- reach average success rate of at least 75% in all the tests;
- reach success rate of at least 75% in the last test.
If students fail the tests, they have to pass a final comprehensive test.
Results of the tests or the final comprehensive test is part of final assesment.
The second part of the exam is the oral examination. Students have to be able to translate short text without dictionary. They also have to prove practical and theoretical understanding of the Latin grammar studied so far.
For taking the oral exam, students have to pass two online tests (revision after 15th and 20th lesson).
Class attendance is obligatory, students can be absent four times without providing an excuse. - Language of instruction

The course is taught annually.
General note: Předmět je povinný pro studenty latinského jazyka a literatury, klasické filologie a jednooborové klasické řečtiny.
