Course objectives
The main objective of the Proseminar II is an introduction to the reading of the Latin poetry. The reading list ocmprises of the poetical works of Ovid and Catullus. The course is concerned with enabling the participants to appreciate the ancient texts. Thus, it offers a brief introduction to the Latin prosody as well as to its commentaries and seocndary literature. The students will be able to read, understand and comment selected poems. Assessment methods
The course is taught as both lectures and seminars. A paper and its oral delivery on the topic sleected during the semester. At the end, written and oral final examination: analysis of the metre of a poem selected and its adequate translation from Latin. Active participation at the classes is expected also.
