Course objectives
In this course students make first acquaintance with translation of literature and its specific problems. The selected texts represent various genres and styles and the specific translation features connected to them. The work in the course includes practical translating as well as research in the fields of translation theory and literary history as well as some bibliographical work. At the end of the course students should be able to understand the specifics of literary translation, to analyze particular works and consequently suggest reasoned translation solutions.
Syllabus
  • This course is a block course and the students work on a translation project. In the spring term 2012 selected chapters from the book Iep! by Joke van Leeuwen will be translated.

Within the class a combination of teacher-led activities and student-orientated learning activities.

1. ) For 3 ECTS: - hand in all translations before the deadline - presentation - 100% presence 2.) For 5 ECTS - collective translation - collectieve presentation - 100% presence during Vertaalatelier 10. – 12.5. 2012 - hand in the whole translation before 13/4/12
