Course objectives
Extension of the course Greek Grammar III. The aim of the course is the systematic explanation of the normative grammar of the Attic dialect in the Classical period (following the textbook Lexis, units 30-39), i.e. morphology: athematic verbs, summary of all stem types of the Greek verbal system, dual, numerals; syntax: special types of infinitive and participial constructions, temporal clauses, indirect speech. At the end of this course, students will be able to apply the grammar and vocabulary covered during lectures to the active and passive translation of the Old Greek texts.

  • 2. Athematic verbs: didomi and its compounds (present and aorist system).
  • 3. Didomi: other aspects.
  • 4. Tithemi and its compounds.
  • 5. Hiemi and its compounds.
  • 6. Histemi and its compounds; temporal clauses.
  • 7. Athematic verbs inflected according to histemi; conjugation of other athematic verbs.
  • 8. Eimi (to go).
  • 9. Verbs of -n(n)ymi.
  • 10. Participle and infinitive. Indirect speech.
  • 11. Numerals.
  • 12. Revision.
