Course objectives
The subject Psychotherapy of Children is aimed on basic theoretical information. Teaching of Psychotherapy of Children is divided into two parts lectures and workshops/seminars. Lectures try to inform students about so called general parts of psychotherapy of children and adolescents. Seminars are focused on s. c. special parts of psychotherapy of children and adolescents.
At the end of the course students should be able to understand and explain standard procedures in psychotherapy of children (e.g. in the context of psychopathology and clinical psychology of children).
Syllabus
  • The content and structure of lectures is adapted to the current situation and needs of students. Curriculum can therefore look like this:
  • Introduction (vs. psychotherapy. Evidence based medicine, YAVIS syndrome, interpersonal vs. Context. Intrapsychic, Differences vs psychotherapy of children. Dosplých ad.)
  • The goal of therapy
  • Phase therapeutic process
  • Catalysts (tools) of the therapy
  • Play therapy, theraplay
  • Game of selected therapeutic approaches and schools
  • Technique of storytelling
  • Family therapy
  • Historical and current specifics of different psychotherapeutic approaches and schools that focus on therapeutic work with   children, adolescents and families
  • The content and structure of the workshops can be adapted to the current situation and needs of students. Curriculum can therefore look like this:
  • Overview of the theory of evolution in   childhood and adolescence
  • MRI and DTI s ~ psychotic symptoms
  • Sy ADD, ADHD versus ADHD
  • Primarily somatic and psychosomatic illness in children   the possibilities and limits of psychotherapy
  • Sy CAN, PTSD
  • Addictive drugs and drug addiction among children and adolescents  
  • Generally, the subject includes the following topics:
  • Phase 1 therapy
  • 2.Catalyzin of changes
  • 3.Theories of the family therapy
  • 4.Paradigm of developmental theory (Erikson, Duvall)
  • 5. Generall system theory
  • 6.Psychodynamická theory (Freud, Wynne, Lidz)
  • 7. Structural theory (Minuchin)
  • 8. Functional theory (Bowen, Toman)
  • 9. Communication theory (Bateson, Jackson, Lederer, Haley, Satir) and other up-to-date topics.

Teaching methods
Interactive lectures and seminars, based on practice of child-psychotherapist. Seminars would be realized by discussion or as excursions to special institutions, which offered psychotherapeutic intervention to chilren and adolescents.
Assessment methods
Teaching proceeds two teaching hours once a week - two hours of the theoretical backgroung (in one week) are followed by another two hours of practical training (in next week). This course is completed with an oral exam.
