- Course objectives
- The course is included among the main philologically oriented courses of the study program. In its contents it shows the philological contexts in which literature and culture are viewed in the field of Information Studies and Librarianship. Humanities in the mirror of literature and culture are presented on key phenomena of philosophy, history, sociology, religion, Czech tradition and the child's aspect. The course has two main goals. On the one hand, the student will acquire an overview of the educational content and the study of professional literature in how it is possible to reflect literally cultural themes in multiplicity and to find links between philology, information science and librarianship. The second objective is to lead the student to be able to critically approach a selected topic in a written form. Individual parts of the course, represented by lecturers, define partial goals such as:
- to acquaint students with the concepts of Czech literary tradition, especially Cyril and Methodius and St. Wenceslas, its development from the Middle Ages to the Early Modern Age, as well as its changes and connections in communication with the present;
- lead students to understand the structural paradox of literature for children and youth and to find criteria for defining the boundary between contemporary literary production intended for children and youth and addressed to adults;
- lead students to characterize the method of historical work in relation to literature as a specific source of knowledge of history, and captured the difference between cultural and historical and literary-historical approaches;
- to teach students how to recognize the relationship between two important areas of culture, philosophy and beautiful literature, in terms of content and history, with special regard to the Czech cultural tradition;
- to teach students to understand the contexts of literary, religious and social history from the 19th century; - to clarify contacts and conflicts of religion, secularism and atheism;
- lead students to work with library information and resources from a thematic area. - Learning outcomes
- After completing the course student:
- gaining knowledge, deep context insight, and the ability to analyze and synthesize aspects linking culture and literature within humanities;
- has a relevant overview of the thematic literature;
- is able to conceive a professional text in which he critically reflects literary-cultural themes and seeks interconnection between philology, information science and librarianship.
Within the sub-topics of the subject matter, the student:
- knows the basic concepts of the Czech literary tradition and presents its specifics;
- is able to use information about these concepts in practice (eg when writing an essay);
- Can work with types of sources and information in the virtual environment that are inaccurate, not listed or properly unhierarchized;
- understands differences between different approaches, though close scientific disciplines;
- is able to interpret selected works of beautiful literature from a philosophical point of view and place them in the context of world and European philosophy.
- has a broader literary-historical knowledge and interpretative skills in working with artistic texts;
- distinguishes between Christian and secular concepts in literature and culture;
- understands the concept of a child's aspect in the context of literary science, can apply it to the interpretation of literary works, recognizes the communication potential of the literary work in relation to the child's recipient - Syllabus
