Course objectives
This course is practical reading and translating class. Students are given texts in written Chinese (shumian yu) and provided with basic vocabulary. Students have to prepare for the class in advance. The topics are various, raging from news from the media to academic writings.
Learning outcomes
At the end of the course students should be able to apply the acquired knowledge when reading advanced texts in written Chinese; emphasis will be put on ellucidating of sentence structure and gradual building of students' vocabulary, incl "chengyu".

Teaching methods
- students' home preparation includes: acquiring of new vocabulary, preparation for the text translation
- the course has a seminar layout: reading and translation of the text, explanation of new grammar, interpretation of cultural realia in the texts, examination of students' home preparation
Assessment methods
Course completion is conditioned with regular attendance (max. 2 skipped classes permitted), active participation, and home preparation.
Evaluation: final written test (min. 70%) and oral examination
