- Course objectives
- This course is practical reading and translating class. Students are given texts in written Chinese (shumian yu) and provided with basic vocabulary. Students have to prepare for the class in advance. The topics are various, raging from news from the media to academic writings.
- Learning outcomes
- At the end of the course students should be able to apply the acquired knowledge when reading advanced texts in written Chinese; emphasis will be put on ellucidating of sentence structure and gradual building of students' vocabulary, incl "chengyu".

- students' home preparation includes: acquiring of new vocabulary, preparation for the text translation - the course has a seminar layout: reading and translation of the text, explanation of new grammar, interpretation of cultural realia in the texts, examination of students' home preparation - reading a random text during the class
- Assessment methods
- Regular testing of vocabulary in class
- final written test - minimum mark of 70%
- oral exam on reading performance - the student will be asked to read and translate a selected section of the text and is then asked to explain selected grammatical phenomena
