Course objectives
This course aims to further consolidate language skills at C1 level of the CEFR, with a special emphasis on academic & creative writing, and debating & presentation skills.
Learning outcomes
Output level of language according to CEFR: C1/C2.
At the end of this course, students should be able to: Understand a wide range of long and complex texts; speak and interact spontaneously and fluently; be knowledgeable of current developments and debates concerning French language; adapt their spoken and written language register to the situation; use language in an appropriate manner in academic and professional settings; express a nuanced and complex point of view in a structured manner; master tools of textual organization and cohesion without effort, in writing as well as in speaking; use written language for creative purposes.
Syllabus
  • • Academic writing : how to obtain clarity, objectivity, precision in writing a research paper;
  • • Debate & presentation : how to express oneself in a structured, nuanced and convincing way;
  • • Creative writing: how to use writing as an instrument of introspection and reflection.

Teaching methods
Seminar-style teaching with active participation and focus on student interaction.
Assessment methods
Continuous assessment: oral presentation (mid-semester), creative writing assignment (end of semester), active participation (maximum 2 absences allowed), weekly homework in preparation of the seminar.
