Prerequisites
Bi3060 Basic genetics && Bi5040 Biostatistics - basic course || E5540 Biostatistics - basic course
Basic knowledge of genetics and statistics.
Course Enrolment Limitations
The course is also offered to the students of the fields other than those the course is directly associated with.
fields of study / plans the course is directly associated with
there are 12 fields of study the course is directly associated with, display
Course objectives
At the end of the course students should be able to understand and explain genetics quantitative traits, nature of inheritance of quantitative traits, the genetic mechanisms at the population level, and assess their genetic variability.
Learning outcomes
Students will get an overview and practical skills in the estimation of genetic parameters, in particular, heritability, and their practical use in breeding - estimation of breeding value. ;
Interpret these findings and use them as a basis for targeted improvement of livestock.
Link knowledge of classical quantitative genetics with molecular genetics approaches in modern breeding techniques - genomic selection.
Syllabus
