- General Biology (programme PřF, M-BI, specialization Microbiology)
- Course objectives
- At the end of the course students should be able to explain of the principles of antimicrobial policy and trends in assessments of quality, safety and efficacy of medicinal products containing antimicrobial substances, to summarize the history of chemotherapy and the use of antimicrobials, to interpret the human medicine and veterinary medicine aspects, to explain both from the European and world point of view. Students should be able to understand and explain mechanisms of action, mechanisms of resistance and genetical aspects of resistance to antimicrobial substances, to work with information on the methods of susceptibility and resistance tests in routine microbiological laboratories together with the performance of the test for specific phenotypes and markers of resistance, to understand and explain the survey of antimicrobial substances according to the pharmacological classes with detail description of chemical, microbiological and therapeutic characteristics, treatments of infection diseases with medicinal product containing antimicrobials.
- Learning outcomes
- Output is to gain knowledge about antimicrobial active substances used both in human and veterinary medicine, knowledges on resistance to antimicrobials, overview of the susceptibility and resistance testing methods as well as news in the area of antimicrobials.
